A Week In Perth

This week we are experiencing the new Optus Stadium and Westin Hotel in Perth for a 270 pax conference. Following on from the downturn of the mining boom in WA, Perth is making a statement as an events capital city once again.

Optus Stadium was recently voted the best stadium in the world. In addition to hosting the State of Origin for the NRL and Manchester United who played against the Perth Glory side last week, the stadium is also home to many event spaces which can be hired by corporates for a taste of something unique. Being a new stadium, for large groups one can drive multiple coaches directly underneath the facility in a purpose built underground ring-road. Needless to say for watching sport it has obvious attributes, but I can also confirm it works very well for corporate occasions equally as well.

A year and a bit into the life and times of the Westin Hotel is a story in itself. I was very fortunate to be the first guest to check into the hotel on April 27, 2018. I have to say this hotel will stand the test of time, the architects really got this one right from the outset. High ceilings throughout present an outstanding hotel with multiple meeting space options. Add to that splendid food and beverage options by notable Melbourne restaurateur Guy Grossi and his team, mixed with the can-do operational talent of the Marriott events team and you have all the ingredients one would require for a highly successful event; all under the watchful eye of experienced GM Peter Brampton.

Whomever was responsible for commissioning the multiple works of art, did a sterling job. Every piece fits the colour scheme and completely enhances the guest experience, using all Western Australian earthy colours from the indigenous artworks of Lena Nyabi to the exquisite aerial landscapes of Christian Fletcher.

It’s quite amazing to witness the effect such a quality new hotel and brand new stadium has had on Perth and its reputation. Many Australians are also using Perth as a stopover when flying to the UK. The new 17 hour direct Perth to London flight has proved popular with many using Perth instead of Dubai or Singapore.

If you happen to find yourself heading to Perth, be sure to stay at The Westin Perth, you won't be disappointed.
